Curious Case Of Lehengas
Taking inspiration from the heavy lehengas worn by Deepika Padukone in Bajirao Mastani and creating an Indo Fusion look of the ethnic wear
You might be of the opinion that unlike the whole concept of repurposing and layering whatever outfits you have in your wardrobe, there is just so much that you can really do with lehengas. But, you will be surprised how creative you can get. You can go way overboard or keep it rather simple, either way, there are plenty of ways of making an ethnic lehenga look chic and modern.

One of the films in the styling challenge list and whose costumes has been extensively decoded is in the category called Robe it in, in the article titled - Bajirao Mastani : A Fashionable Voyage. Lehengas were both era appropriate and suitable for Deepika’s character in Bajirao Mastani where she was a Muslim princess.

Debanjana Bhattacharya, a computer engineer and part time fashion influencer, aged 28, came up with a rather simple twist to her ethnic lehenga. She shared, “I took inspiration from Bajirao Mastani. I was enchanted by Deepika’s gorgeous costumes. She wore some beautiful lehengas, shararas and ghararas. However, I have a couple of lehengas and I love wearing them. I wanted to create this Indo-western look using it and this styling challenge was the perfect opportunity.”
She wore a beautiful bottle green lehenga that had golden diamond shaped prints on it. Instead of going with the usual blouse – she wore a beige cotton shirt and tied up the ends into a knot near her waist. She accessorized it with a statement ethnic choker necklace and that rounded off her look.
The knot detail of the shirt was an interesting styling take

She concluded by saying, “I don’t like dupattas very much as they make me look very clumsy. So I thought of this fushion style where I wouldn’t require to take a dupatta as I am pairing my lehenga skirt with a shirt. The colour combination blended perfectly as well. The overall get-up looked minimal and modern and that was the kind of vibe I wanted to incorporate while styling.”

There are many other ways in which you can style your lehenga. Even if you don't want to go for an Indo-fusion look, you can opt for a unique blouse with cape sleeves maybe, just to add that contemporary styling touch.
