Alauddin Khilji was the epitome of ruthlessness. He cared for none, he lived for none - the entire universe was in his menacing grip. Winning over Rani Padmini and thrusting his domineering victory over her had become his unquenchable desire.

It is believed that Rani Padmavati's courageous move to do Jauhar was Khilji's biggest loss in his entire life. After all the slaughtering and manipulative tactics he used to get to her, it was all in vain as he could never lay his hands on her.

Ranveer Singh played the role of Alauddin Khilji

A ruthless king who stopped at nothing to establish his control over a queen with alluring beauty.

So much so, that he would stop at nothing to have this queen whose beauty was the talk of the town, within his control.

Deepika Padukone played the role of Rani Padmavati

A warrior queen whose bravery still echoes in the history of Rajput glory

Rani Padmavati was an epitome of unrelenting grace and fortitude. A queen in all her glory, her towering dignity roared louder than the evil cries of the treacherous antagonist - Khilji, who was robed in deceit, ruthlessness and lust.

She didn't let her pure entity get smeared by the degrading intentions of Khilji.

A warrior prince or just a towering example of beauty - Rani Padmini's existence was a constant combat with the conundrums laid down by a lecherous being like Alauddin Khilji.

The costumes of his colour palette saw a lot of the saffron shade as it was reminiscent of the fortitude with which Rajputs went to the battlefield to fight till their last breath.

His royal characterization was brought forth with a stark difference in the colour palettes and silhouettes of the costumes worn by Khilji and Ratan Singh.

Shahid Kapoor's character was like that of an underdog. Even though he was a supporting character in this period piece, he played the role of Rawal Ratan Singh with utmost conviction. His character was infused with the audacity of Rajput blood. He was a man of his words. His undying love for his wife - Rani Padmini  was his anchor that kept him steady and ready for the challenges that came his way.
